Travel Info

TO AND FROM AIRPORT:

A bus runs regularly from the airport to the city centre, or there is a taxi rank outside the airport and a taxi into the city will cost around 30 euros.

TRAVELLING AROUND BILBAO:

Bilbao is quite a small city so you can walk around most of the city centre attractions. If you’d like to go further afield (we’ve put some recommendations on the ‘Bilbao Fun’ Page) there is a metro which is really clean (voted cleanest in Europe, fun fact) and easy to use.

WEDDING DAY:

We are hiring a bus which will take guests to and from the city centre on the day of the wedding. The venue is about a 30 minute drive from the city centre. I will send you a text and email with the information for the pick up and drop off time and location nearer to the wedding. But the pick up time will be around 12:30pm and the bus will take you back to the city centre at 11:30pm.

Please let us know in the RSVP if you will need this bus.

If you want to make your own way there as you may need to leave earlier for whatever reason, you can book a taxi in advance here are some numbers:

Radio Taxi Bilbao:

+34 944 44 88 88

Teletaxi:

+34 944 10 21 21

Class Taxi Bilbao:

+34 944 44 50 50

If they don’t speak English and you need help please ask me or Brad and we can book one for you.

Or the hotel/ air bnb host will also book you a taxi.

If you want to rent a car you can do this at the airport, you can leave your car overnight at the venue but will need to collect it before 12pm the following day.

PLACES TO STAY

CASCO VIEJO (OLD TOWN)

We recommend that you stay in the old town or as close to the old town as possible. This is where most of the great bars and restaurants are plus it’s a short walk to the taxi rank and where the bus to the venue will collect/drop you off. It’s also where we’ll be meeting on the Saturday night and the Monday.

If you’re using air bnb there’s plenty of apartments in this area and it will usually say in the description, but if you’re unsure feel free to send me or Brad message with the air bnb you’re looking at and we will let you know if it’s a good location.

ABANDO

Abando is just across the river from the old town so only a 5-10 minute walk and also has some lovely bars and restaurants (see recommendations on Bilbao Fun page).

These are the best two places to stay, you don’t want to be too far outside of this as transport will be difficult. Again please send me or Brad a place you have found to stay and we can let you know if it’s a good location.

GENERAL INFO FOR BILBAO

It rains A LOT! Be prepared for rainy weather, bring a brolly or a rain coat if you can. On the wedding day if it rains it will all be undercover so don’t worry too much about that, just be warned the Basque Country loves a drizzle.

In October the weather should be pretty warm (20-25 degrees) but it could get a little chilly at night so bring a jacket for the wedding if you want.
